The city of Basel has to international train stations: Basel SBB and Basel Badischer Bahnhof. The stations are opperated by Swiss, German and French railway companies.
TIP: Book your train ticket in the country of departure, via the Deutsche Bahn (DB) or the Société nationale des chemins de fer français (SNCF) and compare the prices with offers from the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).
TIP: If your hotel is in close proximity to SBB train station, it may be cheaper to book your train ticket directly to Basel SBB. It may be less expansive than an additional single ticket of the Basler Verkehrsbetriebe (BVB).
The closest airport is the EuroAirport in Basel/Mulhouse/Freiburg. Bus No. 50 will take you directly from the EuroAirport to the Basel SBB train station within 15 minutes. Note that most international flights arrive at Zurich Airport. Direct trains from Zurich airport to Basel main station commute hourly. Train tickets can be bought on the platform. Note that you cannot purchase tickets on the train.
TIP: A bus ticket from the Airport Basel/Mulhous/Freiburg to the city center costs CHF 4.70 and must be purchased at the ticket machine. It is possible to pay with credit or debit card.
TIP: If you book with SWISS, the train ticket from Zurich to Basel is included in your flight ticket if you choose Basel as your final destination.
TIP: A single trip from Zurich Airport to Basel SBB costs approximately CHF 40.00. If you book your ticket in advance via SBB you can save up to 15%.
In Switzerland, taxis are expensive. You may want to check with your hotel about free shuttle bus service from EuroAirport.
